How to tell if eggs went bad?

So of that batch only one egg developed to the pip stage but died before it unzipped. I gave her another batch and stressed the importance of not overhandling but none developed. I have not incubated any yet but 100% are fertile when I check while preparing them as food. I was hoping to hatch this spring. Do you think my eggs are not viable could be an issue because my layers are only 8 months old or more likely the super cheap incubator she got one of the little plastic dome ones for $20 on Amazon.

IMO with experience you can homebuild an incubator better than you can buy cheap amazon/ebay ones, the only two people ive known use cheap ones like that ended up using them as brooders for a staggered hatch, the temperature in them fluctuated over three degrees celsius which is ridiculous.
Incidentally did she lock down and increase humidity at day 18?

She locked down and added water but there’s no hygrometer. I did stop by and look when the first one had one pip a hole and then she said it wasn’t moving 2 days later, the clear part had water condensation rolling down on the lid.
