I candled today on day 11, and it appears I am possibly hatching twins. It is a normal sized, swedish flower hen egg with only 1 yolk as far as I can tell (although I didn't candle before setting). There are 2 dark blobs (with darker spots that are the heads/eyes) about the size of a small grape. They are both moving and pulling the veins around in the egg. They are both on opposite sides of the fat end of the egg. How do I tell of these are twins or not? What type of twins would they be? Should I cull because of the low chance of survival?

They're growing now, might as well give them a chance! On accident I hatched twins. I couldn't figure out how I had more chicks than eggs! I accused my husband of sneaking more eggs in the incubator! He vehemently denied it, he was the one that said that there must have been twins. I never heard of such a thing in my life! :lau

Oh wow! So yours were successful! Could you tell when candling there were 2 in an egg? Were they healthy chicks that hatched on their own?

Sorry the pics turned out awful. Not worth posting. It is too fuzzy to make anything out at all. However it looks the same today. Two dark shapes moving around and kicking. Not near each-other. I had another question. I am hatching some Marans and their shells are SO dark and difficult to candle. I don't see any movement on several of them, but there are some veins I can see and then just shadows. Could there still be veins even if they died? They are on day 12

Nope. Probably bc it only has one yolk.
It was my first hatch ever (10+ years ago), other than veins and movement I didn't know what I was looking for. It was a huge egg and my husband said maybe you will have twins. I was like duh you can't fit twins into one egg. Yeah, I was wrong.
A couple of months ago I tried to hatch a twin duck egg, they died right before pipping. They were fully formed, one black and one grey. Ducks have a hard enough time hatching so I won't ever do that again... :(

So we had a power outage two night ago, but the twin egg still seems ok! A couple of days before the outage I candled and one looked great and was active, the other was surrounded by a black cloud but still looked alive I think? They are in lock down now and the twin egg is slightly moving! Hoping for the best! On day 18.
