okay let me think of a way to explain this for you

Okay say theres only one showable color of potbellied piggies (had to use it looking at your piggie is just too darn cute not to
lau.gif
)

say that ONLY showable color is black.....and you breed that black pig to a white pig...and you get black piglets, white piglets, and black and white piglets...the piglets are still from potbellied pig parents but ONLY the black are acknowledged as pures to the show standard.

Just like how my cocker spaniel Merelin isnt an accepted color.....HOWEVER atelast in the dog world AKC still accepts merle to be registered but they ask that you title their color by the color they MOST look like...my male most looks like BUFF (which is a showable color) but he's a merle which ISNT showable in cocker spaniels ....did this help any?

and a funny way to explain it....say you know a couple who both have black hair, yet they have two kids one with black hair the other with BLOND hair and blue eyes!!!!! They do a praternity test and YEP its their kid for sure.....but the recessive gene of blonde ahir and blue eyes was in both parents to express it. The kid is still theirs, just a different color.

The only thing that is kinda annoying is even if an bird is born from two amers...if it's the wrong color it's an EE
barnie.gif
! LOL!

So the blued eyed blonde is the EE?.....she asks meekly...

No, LOL! Are you even more confused? An EE is a mutt. But if you read the history of these breeds you will understand better. Really, everyone should read the history. It starts with two Chiliean breeds, then turns into Araucana's, then EE's (mutts) and then they got Ameraucana's. Ameraucana's are a really new breed, and the kinks are still being worked out, that's the best way I know to explain it.

okay thanks! i will look at that link you sent....

But you need to be aware the specifications of the Ameraucana breed. If your blue egg laying chicken doesn't meet these specifications, then it is an Easter Egger.

The term Easter Egger is a glitzy term for Mutt chicken..

okay, i think i am getting a little more now!..

... BUT,...i still dont think that Ameraucanas are a true breed though...

.....
lau.gif
....sorry!..i think they are EE's....EE'S that have the accepted show colors...and then they call them an Ameraucana......

I did tell you how to find the information to answer your questions. I can not post a link to the ABC page because it is in violation of BYC Rule: 9. Do not promote other poultry websites that could be considered in competition to BYC. Sometimes it may be appropriate to link to another site that has specific information relative to a question, but moderators have to right to remove links and posts at their discretion. I do love this breed and the breeders of this breed are happy to educate those but I do not have their permission to post content from their site. You will have to go there to read the history of the breed, there you will find the answers to your questions.

*sigh* i think i will bow out now....i dont think i will ever get it...i still say they are mutts....others say no....to each their own..

...thanks for all the help everyone!....

This has been a great thread, but it is a lot to read thru and much funny banter.
I tried to take the highlights to a new thread. Its just a start. Pls let me know what I missed and post pics of your birds and eggs for people with what they are. Maybe we can cut back on the number of "I got this Ameraucana my feed store-why does it lay pink eggs?"
this year. Thanks so much!!-Hope it helps!!

Sara and Pipsandpeeps are both top-notch Ameracuana Breeders, and they both know what they are talking about...I would never question anything they tell me.
But I will try and give you my way of telling the difference.

Easter Egger:
Beard or Non-bearded
Leg Color Varies
Olive, Cream, Brown, Green, Blue, Pink egg coloration
No standard colorations really. Though they can come in duckwings etc.
Most often aquired from HATCHERYS

Ameraucana:
Beard/Muffed should never be Non-beared
Leg Color should be slate/blue
Blue/Green egg coloration
Come in half a dozen or more standard colorations. Blue, buff, white, silver duckwing, black, splash, lavender, etc.
Most often aquired from BREEDERS

I hope in some way I helped you.

Im getting eggs from Sara. I contacted Pips before all of this from eggs for her but she never replied
idunno.gif
. Either way im getting from another show breeder!

what upset me was telling me to go back and read the website....I did...three times (twice before my post)...then a third time to see what i could have missed to make me understand...AND i still didn't.

your categories help some but also frusterate and confuse me more...I think I'll just pester Sara about it all when she has time
smile.png

if they lay blue and green eggs...then im back to square one of confusion...
