how to tell the sex of ducks and geese

Use the search button, there is a lot of info there. I have four that are 5 wks old. Only two of them are quacking. They say a female quacks as to where a male has a more of a throaty sound. Hope this helps.

in ducks it can be anywhere from 4-11 weeks before the babies get their adult voices, at wich the females start ro quack, males whisper, it's easy to tell them apart

Depends on what type of Ducks and Geese you have. Some are auto-sexing. Some you can tell by the way the tail curls or not on the ducks?

mine just chirps like a bird....lol He's small and i have no clue how old it is. We just got it today. Once again i go for the smallest one in there. It like to sit on my shoulder and hide under my hair...lol

I just can't remember what my other duck did??? He's a male and i feel this one is more vocal. they are also different breeds. When will the tails start to curl??

P.S I hear him churping now...lol
MOMMY IS COMING LIL DUCKY!!!

sillystunt, I thought I read somewhere that the curling tail of the drake does not happen until AFTER the first moult. I hope someone can give us the right answer on that statement. I have two ducks, a Pekin and Swedish that are VERY vocal and quacks. They are about 8 weeks old. The other two (same age) a KC and a Cayuga are quieter. Males maybe??

I LOVE ducks!

The females I have start quacking anywhere between 2 and 14 weeks old. It is a luoud definitive "quack" soudn with ZERO squeak to it.

The boys tend to start out peeping the same as females, then go to a squeaky stage (think adolescent boys) and then a harsh whispery type of sound.

The tails CAN curl after the first moult, when they get their adult plumage in. Many times this first moult also leaves them with a "dusky" plumage which makes them look female...and afte the second moult they get their distinctive boy markings.

Since it takes from 2-12 weeks for the first moult and voices to show up, you could have a bit of a wait on your hands.

There are videos on utube about how to VENT sex ducks and chicks....however I do not wish to get that personal with them. I have PLENTY of time to wait

For geese, I have NO EARTHLY IDEA.

That's why I got Pilgrim geese. DARK is female, silvery yellow is male. I hatched two gorgeous boys

Girls lay eggs....eventually. And they tend to pair up for a mating/breeding season. The female does most of the sitting.

Congrats on the beginning of a new obsession!

ok I am more confused then ever now and still don't have an answer. lol I have 4 ducks... 3 are the darker color one is a light tan color they all do the same and look the same as far as tails go. I would hope they are all females...but if not .....
