A hawk got one of my chickens today and i was able to run out and scare the hawk off relatively early to the attack. There is one visible puncture wound under her wing, and one of her eyes is shut. When she opens it it is very red and glassy and watery. I have her separated in a coop in our garage where it is a little warmer. How can i tend to her eye and her puncture wounds to ensure that she makes a full recovery?

She was eating a bunch and drinking on her own again and seems alert and chirpy! This is her eye today. Not bloodshot red like yesterday but i can’t tell if the cloudy area is a scratch or if she’s blind or if it’s something that will go away. As far as her wing if washed it with the saline rinse twice and it looks okay but i think she’s still in pain/sore. I had to help her get on and off her roost between tonight and this morning but she still tries to fight me when i give her the eye wash lol

It's good that she is eating/drinking, alert and chirpy:)

Apply a little triple antibiotic ointment or vetericyn to the wound on the wing. Do you have her outside with the flock? If so, just keep a watch that the other birds don't pick at the wound - if needed apply a bit of Blu Kote to help hide the wound.

The eye doesn't look too bad. As she recovers you will be able to tell how much damage was done. You can also use a little ophthalmic ointment like Terramycin or similar in the eye if you are worried about infection.

I hope she recovers soon.

I have her separated for now in a spare coop we have in our garage where it’s a little warmer than outside. She seems to be doing much better but because of her eye i want to wait until at least tomorrow to let her back out with the other girls.
I bought a triple antibiotic but i had read ones for pain management can be toxic to chickens. I don’t have the tube to double check the ingredients but i might go out and get the vetericyn instead.
I have an eye wash for her eye and it looks so much better than yesterday when it was totally red so hopefully her risk of infection decreases. I’m just worried it was damaged from the attack. It’s open more than yesterday but she still likes keeping it shut. Thanks everyone!
