How to top everything else? Tornado of course! *WARNING* Graphic Pics

I am waiting here in Kansas for our tornado season to kick off, it seems it might wait till may but we don't go through a whole summer without any. I think I would rather face a hurricane then a tornado since at least with a hurricane you have some warning a tornado maybe a few minutes at most. We have a basement we head to. Need to get the battery powered radio working not that I need it, DH and a both DS's will be up stairs on the porch watching the storm.

Hope everyone in the south can enjoy a storm free summer.

On the Weather Channel's Facebook page, there is a link to a forum where people can post about things they're looking for or that things that they found.

Thanks Mahonri.
Talking of helping the neighbors; I've spent alot of time since the storm trying to help my neighbors who were hit harder than me and I know most folks around here are the same way. I can't do alot and have to take breaks every few minutes as I'm still getting over the heart attack from January, but doing the best I can. There is one thing I love about this Country and the South in general. Neighbors helping neighbors, people helping strangers.
Yesterday I had total strangers in my yard picking up limbs and debris. There is a family from a couple miles up the road I don't get along with because they are a rough bunch (Moonshiners, poachers, just a real mean backward hillbilly family) and I look out and they have their ton flatbed truck in my pasture hauling debris off. When I saw the mean old coot he just grinned, spit his tobacco at one of the guineas, waved and went back to loading.
I gotta tell you, in times like this when I'm heart-broke, tired, hurt and ready to give up is the very times that I sit down and take a break and realize just how darn proud I am to be an American!
The kindness of strangers this week has been so overwhelming. There are things I can't post publicly that members of our BYC family have done and offered to do that has made me sit down and cry with the shock of the generosity. I haven't heard anyone in my little area blaming the government or even God.

I have heard lots of people, myself included, thanking God for sparing our families and giving us the chance to pull ourselves up, dust ourselves off, pull everything together and go on.

Every day with my family is a gift and a blessing.

And to all my BYC family. Thank you. Every note, PM, prayer and other support has been so inspirational to me and so appreciated.

I have spent alot of time reading this post and looking at the pictures. I have laughed and I have cried. I am so glad you and your family are ok. God bless you. And peace be with you.

I am from farm stock I remember one storm at grandma's farm that we got hit hard. After it cleared we all headed out grandma started issuing orders about clean up the boys jumped in trucks to go see what neighbors might need help and invited everyone over for a pot luck supper. Grandma saw that mean old rooster that I hated dead she picked him up and walked inside we ended up having friend chicken for supper. Within a few days the farm was back up running and we helped the neighbors and they helped us. Just the way it went. I miss those days at the farm. I so want to get back to the country life. It seems here in town its more watch out for yourself then your neighbors. I am so glad that you and your family are okay. I am still praying for our members who where hit in AL and have not checked in.

I know! That's my biggest worry right now too. I've tried calling and emailing several of our BYC members from the areas hit so hard in Alabama, but with the power out and no internet, along with very spotty cell phone service, it might be WEEKS before we know if they are ok.

First of all thank you for making me cry!!! Having wonderful neighbors is a beautiful thing. That even your "mean" neighbors would come out to help is a great testament to the fact that people still have some good in them even if we can't always see it. I would so love to move somewhere with a lot more property than what I have now of course so I can have more chickens, etc.... but I can't bear the thought of moving because of my neighbors. I will never be able to find such great people anywhere else I don't think. My next door neighbor tells me if we try to move he will sabotage our house so it won't sell because he doesn't want us to go!!

I think it is a great thing that you are at least trying to help out despite your health. Just take your time and don't overdo it. I sure hope the rest of the BYC members and everyone else there is safe and sound and that you won't see anymore storms. I will continue to keep you all in my prayers.

I agree with Mahonri's statement. I sure hope our government does step up to help out. I also hope that America will step up just like they did for all the people in Haiti! If I was there I would have my work boots and gloves on help you out!! If there is anything that any of us can do to help in any though please let us know. I don't have any fancy eggs or anything but if your just wanting so good ole layers I would be more than willing to ship you some eggs.

God bless you and your family. Take one day at a time and know that God doesn't put any more on us than we can handle!!!!

Sorry to hear about everything MFB. I can definately sympathize with you on the storm losses.Even though I'm MANY miles south of the destruction there,we got a lot of horrible wind and some really bad rains one night.I lost a few of my young Orpington babies I'd hatched out from a couple of fellow BYCers. They were in the large grow out coop I have, but they decided to pile up and sleep in a corner where the covering was torn from with the winds overnight.A small puddle formed in that corner and the ones on bottom were lost.. Luckily only a few.Have a couple survivors though on meds for some sniffles.I saw they finally ate pretty good this morning,so hopefully they will pick up.
I live down on the coast.I survived staying through Katrina ,however my home, vehicles, and all my animals were lost.(with the exception of 3 very old wise cats and 2 bulldogs that were on what was left of my second floor balcony the next day.),and lots of friends were lost also.I took every precaution, had every animal bedded down inside the house so no trees or anything like that would fall or no debris would hurt them.Well, I got 12 foot of water through the house and it took it off the raised foundation. All animals were on the first floor in my huge den that had huge 8x8 supports and rafters.Figured if a tree came down,it was the safest place.

I lived more than 6 miles from the beach and farther from the Pearl and Jordan rivers. All three met in the middle. Luckily I too live in a small town where we all just banded together and helped each other get through.
I know you and your family have been through alot the last few months, but just don't give up.I lost my dad, grandmother and grandfather all within 3 months and all just a few months before Katrina. It may seem a hopeless battle, but Prayers, family, and friends are the best medicine..... It does get better.I don't have anything laying, but I would send you loads of eggs if I did.

We had some bad storms...

It was horrible.

My grandparent's brand new chicks got blown away, and somhow

made it back! We have two of them here, feeding them, and they just

found the other two. We're just thankful to have all of our family.
