So very, very grateful to the Lord that you and the family are alive ,..
It brings back the memory of seeing our home the day after Hurricane Katrina,,..5 huge trees on the house, nothing recognizable,..I admit I sobbed,.. but it does get better,.. we don't have trees anymore,. but we have each other!

How are your incubating eggs doing? Didn't you have some JG's from Wynette in that bunch?

Thanks. You are so right! Having each other and our kids safe is the only thing that matters. We are very lucky and blessed, so many other people lost lives of loved ones, we only lost a few chickens, a few trees, our porch, a couple of out buildings, some fencing, slight to moderate damage to the house and barns, stuff that can be replaced or I can fix as time, my health and funds allow. The mare has a cut on her neck and is limping a bit, but no other problems. Our Farrier is supposed to be out this next week to trim and check her feet and stuff anyway, and I doctored the cut myself which is healing nicely.

Even with the power loss I think the incubator chicks are going to be ok. I just hatched out 29 our of 36 orloffs that were in lockdown the day the sorm hit. It hurt our hatch a little, because we normally run a bit higher percentage on the hatches. (Last week was 37 out of 39 which is about average).

The only eggs we have in the incubator right now are our own Orloff eggs, a few odd guinea, BB red bantam and splash Cochin bantam eggs, along with some breeder quality Faverolle eggs we ordered from a breeder here on BYC. They are supposed to hatch next Friday.. Just crossing our fingers and hopeing for the best. Someone did gift us with some eggs from Wynette's Jesrsey Giants, but we had a little mix up on them and they won't be here for another week or two. So again, what could have been a mix up was most likley God's way of giving us a better chance when they do come in!

Never did figure out who gifted us with those JG eggs either and Wynette sure ain't talking.

We are expecting some Domineque Eggs in the first of the week from one of the top lines in the USA too! So things are sure looking up.

We all did a lot of praying during the storm, but have said many more "thank you's" since they passed. We truely are bleassed to have not suffered more damage and loss than we did!

Don't know how I missed this thread till now. Just read the entire thing. So glad you and your family made it through OK. I finally got a hold of a childhood friend who lives just outside Birmingham AL. He and his family are OK, but they have no power yet. He didn't get hit, but he said that his property is full of stuff from other homes and in some cases from towns miles away. Sounds like things are slowly coming back to normal for you. So sorry about the loss of your chicks. Glad some survived and your hatches are going OK. You're in our prayers here. Take care and God Bless.
