I'm attaching a picture of the water system I have set up for my almost 14 wk old chicks and am wondering if anyone has any tips on how to train them to use this type? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

I don't know if this would work in every case, but I would just "peck" the yellow part with my finger continuously, and look really interested in what I was doing. Try to get your chickens' attention and see if they will peck at it too. If one learns how, the others will quickly pick up on it.

Yes, I have been doing that. I'm trying to be patient, but I also don't want to lose any due to dehydration. Hard to know how long to hold out.

Sorry, I just saw this (even though it's from yesterday) and had a really funny visual image of it in my head.

Could you try to manually (but gently) dip their beaks in the water? People do that with day-old chicks to get them to learn. Maybe it works with adult birds. IDK.

Someone posted the advice to remove other waterers when trying to teach them a new one. I did that and they caught on. You may have already done that, but if not, it's worth a try.

I briefly tried these with my chicks and didn’t work. It was just a day but I didn’t want to go further. Plus they may have been just too small to effectively work the tab. I ended up purchasing the gravity cups instead from Rent-a-coop on amazon, and those fit well in the same holes. The gravity ones serve the same purpose as the yellow tab ones, but the chickens don’t have to peck to get the water dispensed.

Yeah, those work THE BEST. For your first order (I think. I may be wrong) you get an extra gravity waterer thingie. My chickens love them and it's easy for them to use. I need to remember to fill it up every so often, however.
