My chickies have developed some kind of eye infection. They have infection in their eyes and some dirty beaks like their is a discharge. I have already lost a couple. I have treated the ones I have noticed with vet rx and a tube of something to put in their eyes. I got it from the feed store. I have also put some rooster booster in thier water and feeding them medicated chick starter. What is it and got any other ideas?

Some one told me about this medication that gets rid of an eye infection that spreads called Corzey.

Here it is.
The treatment is called metronidazole,it's a generic med of flagyl, but much cheaper.

In the mean time, Hold a warm water cloth on there eys for a minutes a few times a day.

And put used cofee grounds in there eyes with the juice of the coffee grounds. Dont worry about the grounds in the eyes it wont hurt them, This is what we do, it works really great for pink eye, cuts in the eye and other eye promblems.

Does it smell horrible? IF not, then it is NOT Coryza. Are they sneezing? Could be CRD- chronic Respiratory infection.
Or it could be MG/MS. Do a search on here. Lots of good information.
However, I would recommend terramycin, oxymycin, any antibiotoc. This is an infection. You can do the neosporin or terramycin in the eyes too, but it sounds like the CRD.
Did you introduce new birds lately? That's usually when it happens

If you are just looking for eye ointment Terrramycin has a ointment for eyes.
I like to use Tylan infection will be gone in 3 days completely, you will see resaults the next day, expencive but works so good I will never use tetracycline powder again. I tryed to go cheep with the other things and found it is not worth it for us. I hope your little birds get well soon.

so are you saying that the tetracyclin in their drinking water doesnt work? i think from the common thread of symptoms that a lot of respiratory illness is going on now. swollen eyes, nasal discharge, lack of energy even death.

It could be ILT and in that case you will have a problem. If you have any more die, you should get a necropsy done. There has been lots of info on this, but I speak from personal experience...if it is ILT it is treatable and they will not be carriers; there's lots of conflict on this but we have been through it, and won. But, you need to find out what it is first, and find out quickly if you want to save them. Eye infections are really common in chicks and even adults and can be caused by all kinds of things, but if it is killing them it is really important to find out what it is. ILT kills quickly...so be careful.

Mix oxine and water and spray the cages with that. Doesn't hurt to wash em with plain soapy water first. Sorry the late reply, hope they are doing ok.
