How to Treat Scaly Leg Mites

Pics
No, I'm not saying that, I am saying that, though I would like to see some before, during, and after pictures of birds that were treated with Vaseline.
How about I do it for you? I have a bird that needs to be treated :)

Would you like me to start a pm with you? Or just show you the before, during, and after pictures after it’s all said and done?

How would you judge the results? You can't see the mites. The scales don't return to normal until they regrow. You can see the mite poo (it's what causes all that crusty stuff apparently)

The easy way to do that is use it next time you have a chicken with scaly leg mite.:)

I tried applying it once and found it to be too much of a mess.

It would require several people to document the process over time.

Maybe we could start a new thread. I'm sure I could find one to treat, and that one O could treat with ivermectin, then we could compare notes.

Vaseline works on plant-sucking parasites; just smother it over them in a thick layer, they suffocate and die, and you wipe it off later. Works on scale insects and the like. Good for houseplants. You just have to use a lot, a millimeter-thick layer or so. It's a good first thing to try because it's completely harmless. No toxins, nothing carcinogenic, just kind of annoys your birds.
Sure, toxic substances will kill the mites, but why not use something inert first? Like laying a tarp over weeds to smother them out rather than using herbicides.
A dip in rubbing alcohol first might or might not be effective, but it shouldn't hurt anything. Dip the feet, let the alcohol evaporate off, and apply vaseline nice and thick.
