How to 'unsuscribe' to a thread? But I don't mean that exactly

When one responds in a thread thereafter they get a little chick alert anytime there has been another response in that thread (when clicking to see our posts). It turns out it is impossible to ignore that cute little chick

Is there a way to opt out of receiving those little chick alerts for a particular thread no longer of interest or are we in for good once we're in? Sometimes a thread gets way off track or crazy or whatever and it would be nice to jump ship if possible!
Thanks

(this question is distinct from when one actually suscribes to a thread, hence the qualifier in the title

Nope, the chicks just say when there's a new post. They do it whether you like it or not. If you can't resist, just click "mark forum as read" and the chicks in that forum will all go away.
