How to vaccinate your own chicks?

There is a cocci vaccine offered. I was correct, it is on the back cover of their catalog. Catalog # COVC cocci vaccine. .15 cents each .

Are you talking about Cackle Hatchery vaccinating for cocci? I know that Murray McMurray offers that cuz I had my chicks vaccinated for both Mareks and Cocci.
I would love it if Cackle offered vac for cocci but I didn't see it anyplace when I ordered my chicks from them.

Thanks!

Here are some pictures on vaccinating for Marek's. http://www.shagbarkbantams.com/mdvac.htm
If
your new chicks haven't been vaccinated for Cocci, can't you use the medicated feed? That's what I'll be doing. I have 25 coming from McMurray's this weekend

and only had them vaccinated for the Marek's.

Oh yes I will be using the medicated starter but would just feel better if they were vaccinated too!

I wish that Cackle would vac for cocci too like Murray McMurray does that would be good I think!

Thanks!

According to McMurray, If you have your chicks vaccinated for Cocci, you CANNOT use medicated feed, It will VOID out the cocci vaccine. You cannot use both. I can't find unmedicated starter feed in my area, so none of my chicks will ever have the cocci vaccine if I order from McMurray( which I doubt I will order from them anyway).

That is very interesting! I had no idea that there was even a vaccine available for cocci! I learn something new everyday! Thanks for clarifying that for me.

I'm not an expert, but I thought if you doubled up it voided the protection...

better look into feeding medicated if you get a vaccine...or look into finding UNmedicated food if you vaccinate...

Yes there is a vaccinations for Cocci. The chicks are actually given a weakened strain of the protozoa (that lives in most soils). The protozoa help the chick to create a resistance to Cocci in its intestines.

If the chick is given medicated feed, it will not hurt the chick but likely will negate the positive impact of the vaccination (i.e. the vaccination will just be 'lost money').

I had my chicks vaccinated for Cocci when I ordered from McMurrays and there were no problems.

On a side note, if a chick has been vaccinated for Mareks, but not Cocci, it can still be given medicated feed (the medication in chick starter is JUST for the Cocci and won't provide any protection for Mareks)
