How to wash duck eggs for consumption?

We go through a lot of eggs around here ( I dont even buy chicken eggs anymore) and I don't wash them until I'm ready to use them. Just a little soap on a clean rag, some real warm water and little elbow grease. No ones gotten sick yet, so I guess that's a good sign.

I am lucky in that most of the time my ducks will lay in the nesting boxes and there is nothing to clean off. I keep the nesting boxes with fresh pine shavings and hay in them- and only rarely have to give the eggs more than a quick wipe over with a damp cloth. I have a lady at work who takes the ones I dont set in the incubator- and having had ducks herself in the past- she knows how dirty ducks eggs can be- but has commented on how clean the ones I give her always are. On the occasion one is too dirty- I throw it out rather than use it for either incubating or for eating.

I do what "gofasterstripe" does. The eggs are really clean when I pick them up at 8:00am. The ducks seem to use one nest and it's very clean. I use tires for the nest. I use that yellow sponge w/the greencoarse wirey thing on the back. Now someone has to tell me how to keep the sand clean and white w/ these messy ducks.

Most of mine are clean, laid on straw. Those that need any attention get a wipe down with a dampened cloth. No complaints yet from the people with whom I share the eggs.

A few people have asked how I clean all the poop off. I explain that for some reason, these ducks with rare exception lay clean eggs in a clean nest.

With mine it is a miss and hit story. One the floor they are dirty, in the boxes they are clean. Today they all voted for the boxes. We will see what they decide on tomorrow.

My girls use one best that has breast feathers and straw in it so they're usually very clean unless I have trouble harvesting them. I'm short fat and middle aged

We wash our eggs right before we use them. Small bowl of water and few drops of soap. Lightly scrub and rinse.

I sound suggest you check with your states far stand rules hit eggs. If we sold ours we'd have to wash immediately after harvesting.
