I don't wash eggs. Not the ones we keep or the ones I sell. I keep the nestboxes scruptiously clean, so I rarely find a dirty egg. Still, accidents happen - hen has a bowel movement, her feet are dirty, etc. If it can't be wiped off with a rough paper towel, it gets set aside and fed to the dogs.
I've seen the eggs they sell at the farmer's co-op. Filthy! I would never consider selling eggs that dirty.
