How to wrap a wing

The way the vet did it didn't stay on for long. It was sliding off her as I let her out of the pet carrier when we got home.

I tried one way tonight and it slid down over the other wing which I thought was bad, so I just wrapped her a bunch of times around the wing. I'm sure it will slide down within an hour.
Vet said to put the wing back where it belongs when it would be against her body and just wrap it there.

Ducks really are the wrong shape to tape arent they...

Touch wood....I have never had the problem in my flock. I had a rescue goose a few years ago- but she was too old to treat by the time she came to me. At least she looks happy enough to be handled and wrapped. Stressing her out by trying to do it would make the whole ordeal so much harder.

All I can say is your a bad mama. You could of got your not so blue blue runner some blue vet wrap. Now shes going to have a green complex!!

Can you maybe wrap the wing then wrap it round her body like they do for angel wing!!

TLWR You are going to need some tape to keep that on. It sounds horrible, but take it from someone who kept a wing splint on a duck (vet put it on) for a whole month for a broken wing. Use a piece of the thin, white cloth tape for people and wrap it around the vet wrap, but allow it to touch some feathers. Yes, it will be horrible having to cut some feathers getting it off, but it will stay for as long as your bird needs it.

Nicky - the vet put on the green wrap.
I stopped at TSC on the way home and picked up some blue, purple and some other color. We normally have blue vet wrap, but I used that up on T's sliced pad and then had to use human stuff on Jet's head last weekend until we could get her to the vet to stitch up the hole in her head. So I was fresh out of any wrap.

She was fine overnight with it and walked out of it after an hour this morning.
I'm filling their pool now and the vet said fine to letting her swim - but do I do that with or without a wrap? I haven't rewrapped her quite yet.

I did ask if they made a duck sling for this purpose LOL

There was a post on here about wrapping for angel wing, and it worked good for my duck. Do a search on here for angel wing and you should be able to come up with it. I don't know why it wouldn't work for your full grown duck.

A picture's worth a thousand words:

She kept this on for a full month (her wing had a compound fracture) as well as her leg, which you can see.

If you do it tightly enough, you shouldn't need to touch the feathers with the tape.
