How well do your older hens lay?

Pluto...no worries. I have had great success selling my 12-18 month olds and replenishing my stock with just laying pullets. There are alot of people out there that are thrilled with getting 2-3 eggs a day from their new friends. I myself have a hard time doing this as well....but have space and money restrictions that have made me have to consider all these options. Try it and see if you get any responses. I am sure there is someone out there that would be happy to give you a bit of money for your girls!! I sell mine for $5.00 CDN and they go usually as a bunch!!

If you cant do the deed yourself and dont feel comfortable getting someone to do it for you then try this method. Otherwise you might just have to wait things out and start over.

Good luck and make the decision that works for you.

My oldest is a Leghorn. At 3+, she lays 5 to 6 days before taking a day off. I had a 3yo Production Red. I gave her to a farmer because she was not able to form shells despite the supplements.

The Leghorn did go through a rough molt at 2.5 when she stopped laying for about 3 months. I did not think she was going to lay again and almost gave her up.

My oldest is the EE in my avatar. She is 7 years old and quit laying when she was about 2 years old or so. Maybe an egg here and there in her 3 year old year. She always laid brown eggs too, never colored ones. Just this year she started to look like an old lady.
