The lower the roost to the board the fewer 'overshoots' you'll see.
Deep is the correct term, but can be confusing.
2' deep with roost centered 8" above board...works for me.
Only caveat is that the roosters tail rubs against the wall, which can mess up those feathers.

12" is most common recommendation, at least when I started out.I *think* its recommended to have the roost at min 18 inches from the back wall, is it possible to slide your roost out a few more inches? Protect those tail feathers!![]()
