how will i know if the egg is fertile? i have a rooster in with the hens. i have seen them mate so would that mean the eggs after will be fertile. its been about 2 weeks sence i have seen them mate.
Two ways.
1. If you break open today's egg and determine that its fertile, then tomorrow's most likely will be too (unless the rooster has since been removed?)
2. Incubate or let a broody sit on it and after about 7 days, candle it. If it is fertile and developing, you will be able to see the little fetus.
yep the chances are that the eggs are fertile if the hens go broody or if you incubate them you can check in a few days by candling them if they are fertile or not
ok, thank yall. i have a hen sitting on one egg right now. i have not seen anymore for a while. so i will check next saturday. and my rooster hasn't been removed.
I cannot add anything to what has been said about your specific topic. Good advice. May I suggest you read this thread? You may know all this but you may also gain some useful information.
