how would you know if a hen is going broody? or what are the signs?

Then if you want babies order some hatching eggs or if you dont then break her being broody by putting her in a wire bottomed cage with food and water and no nesting materials...being broody too long is hard on their health!
 
Broody chickens don't get off the nest for anything except once a day to poop and eat for the entire month or so it takes to hatch eggs. This is really hard on their bodies, so unless you are going to have chicks, its not worth letting them go through that.
