How would you prepare to receive a 4 moth old after 48 hours shipping?

Ok heading off to TSC tomorrow for supplies. Please share how you would prepare for receiving a 48 hour boxed up and shipped across Texas chicken? Any recommendations for my shopping list?

My plan:
1)isolate until I am positive on his status;
2)Electrolytes in his water;
3)He will be a solo roo and 2 months in age behind my hens.


The seller is highly confident that shipping is highly reliable as I had offered to make the 10 hour drive each way if that was a better option.

What about keeping him isolated to let him get used to his surroundings?

He just went into the post today at 9:45 AM, so it is a done deal for this little guy.

Yes that is the plan isolation until I am confident he is ready for introduction to the girls. I don't think I need to teach him to use the coop the gals have that down pat and believe he will follow their lead being 2months and a week behind them developmentally.

I always felt my starter flock was a mistake ordering a straight run as all 5 roos I brooded have had to go for behavioral reasons. I am hopefull this guy will be schooled properly as he was raised by a hen and be the low man on our pecking order.

I really am expecting he will be. Raised by a stable flock with a good temperment vs a mass market breeder and a hen vs human I feel confident spending the obscene amount of cash for him!

Still he was cheap at only 50US before shipping if he truly is a SQ bird. The shiping was horrid but cheaper than 4 tanks of gas in my Jeep!

Additionally, he moves my breeding program so much further into the future as H and H Longtails breeds to SOP. Where Meyer's didn't.

That sounds good!
If this one turns out aggressive u could pick him up and carry him around when doing chores outside. We r dealing with an aggressive rooster .. he started up last year and seems like he's finally getting calmer. I would pick him up usually about the time they roost (that's the only time I can catch him now) and carry him around while getting whatever I need done.
