How wrong is it to plan own 40th Birthday party?

Go for it! My sister gave organized her 40th. She's single, childless except for those she cares for as a nanny. It was a luau complete with roasted pig!!!

I would go all out, if they want to fuss, let them do it but tell them exactly what you want. Tell them to put up or shut up!!

I wouldn't plan my own 40th birthday party! That's why I just turned 42, and still haven't had the 40th party

If you want a party by all means plan it, but next time give us a little more notice so we can come. Enjoy and HAPPY BIRTHDAY

I think it's a wonderful idea!! If you're family/bf have their noses out of joint tell them they can plan the party on the cruise they're surpising you with after the party!

I planned my 40th bd party. No one else was ever going to do it for me... I told everyone to wear "casual" black. I had a lot of fun.

Thanks guys I feel better. It wasnt the BF or Family giving me a hard time over the whole "organizing" they appreciate actually as they just have to fill the "role" of party giver...LOL, no a couple of friends were giving me a hard time for doing it myself as "you aren't suppose to throw your own party!" doesnt anyone want to do it for you? sure someone would probably give me a party but it wouldnt be as fun because only I know what I want for my own party.....

I agree If you want it done right do it yourself, and if anyone doesn't think its right....there is the door no one is being forced to attend, and you can tell them I said so

I threw a really cool "Surprise" party for my best friend's 30th birthday - she loved it. The next year when I turned 30, I was building myself up for the big surprise party that she was going to throw for me - or at least I thought she would throw for me. The day of my 30th birthday actually fell on a Saturday and we were planning on going out - she did not even remember that it was my birthday - she just wanted to go out. I was so depressed, my own sister even forgot my birthday.

I decided, that's it, next time I plan my own party. So I say good for you and I hope you have a blast!

Go for it! We usually have 3 or 4 pig roasts a year and one just happens to fall on my birthday! lol

I say it's great you're throwing yourself a party. If you were one to throw yourself parties when you were younger, you can say it's your 20th b-day all over again!

Ummm, these "friends" that are giving you a hard time... why aren't THEY throwing the party for you?! They don't get to harass you unless they were planning a humungeous surprise party already.
Have a huge party with lots of cake. It's your birthday so you don't have to share the cake either.

(PS For my 40th I'm going to Hawaii I think. Any and all of my friends are welcome to join me. It will be a huge celebration! I have already told them to start saving. They have 2 years to figure out how to get themselves there!)
