How young can poults go to a ground pen?

yep
feel the same way myself, safer is always better. Lost way too many of all types of fowl growing up trying to rush things along, not gone happen any more, off ground brooders are the best place for them

I didnt know you were supposed to wait so long. I put my four Bronze turkeys out at 2 weeks. They are now 4 weeks old and seem ok.

very lucky there, in some cases you just never have trouble with them, but thats more exception than rule. also getting chilled at night, soaked in a rain storm, injury, predators, other birds, they all pose risk to them that young, not just disease

I just lost a poult to a chicken of all things. There was a tiny hole in my brood pen and it got out and my chickens pounced on it. The poults I incubate myself stay in a brooder at least eight weeks. I prefer letting my hens raise them because there is less mess to clean but, there's a risk in that also. Especially, if a snake finds them.

That's true about hen raised ones, they do a great job on them and no brooder mess to deal with, only draw back is the hazzards of the barn yard
