a cat somehow opened my quail cage and killed a quail and left nothing but feathers.
What should i put in the trap or how could i kill it in a public area

Put a can of sardines in the trap and I bet you won't catch a cat! But if you do don't kill it! It could be someones pet. Most cats aren't intelligent enough to break into cages, I bet it was a coon!

I agree, if you catch it don't kill it. Ask your neighbors if it belongs to them, if not take it to the shelter. I completely understand you being upset about your quail, but since it is a domestic animal you have more options for getting rid of it than just killing it.
