Hey guys.

So one of my amberlinks layed an egg today and she is not even on layer mix. I do give them a lot of table scraps and weeds (like from the garden) Could this make them lay eggs? Should i switch them on to layer mix now? The youngest one is 15 weeks old.

This is her egg.

Their diet doesn't affect WHEN they start laying - your hen was just ready to lay her first egg. Since she is laying you can either switch to layer feed now or offer her some oyster shell (or crushed chicken egg shell) in a separate container. If she needs it, she will eat it while the others - who may not lay for several weeks yet - probably will not. Congrats on the egg!

X2 - though, if I were you, I would not switch to layer myself, as I would prefer to feed the best feed for the whole flock (which is not layer at this point) and supplement the bird who is laying with calcium source on the side.
