Hey there! My name is Stacy and I live in GA with my husband, our 11 y/o son, and our 2 four legged girls, a black lab mix and a yellow lab. We are brand new to raising chickens. We went to our local Tractor Supply for dog food today and came home with 4 little ISA Brown ladies. While they are under the light for a few weeks, we will be building our coop for them. We are excited about this adventure and teaching our son all about raising and caring for chickens. We look at this as a great teaching and learning adventure for him (and maybe us too)! With rising prices on just about everything, we are planting and growing our own vegetables and figured we could also raise the chickens for eggs as well. We are trying to teach our son how to be resourceful and provide for himself as much as possible. I also own my own business that I am attempting to get off of the ground. I sew a few things as well as make wooden signs, decals, cups, mugs, etc... I found my way to BYC through a friend who has been raising chickens for a few years now. I will be busy browsing through all of the posts to gain as much knowledge as I can. I look forward to "meeting" all of you!

Welcome!
Build your coop quick because they grow really fast.
Also this time of year they probably won't need to be under heat for long.

What are you keeping them in tonight?
We have them in a large plastic tub with pine flakes, their food and water, and a heat lamp light that is attached to something next to the tub so we can adjust the height of the lamp as needed. My son also added a little mirror in the corner of the tub and they seem to enjoy looking at themselves. We have a basic idea of what we are building and will hopefully get that taken care of this weekend.

Hello and welcome! Build your coop bigger than you think you will need because...chicken math. That is my unsolicited advice :frow

Hi there and thank you for the kind welcome! I told my husband earlier, whatever size we think we will need, we are going to go a little bigger than that! 😂 Better to build it all now than have to add on later is the way I see it! I'll take the unsolicited advice any time!
