Thank's for sharing the picture's your Chickens are Beautiful! And that's a Real Nice Chicken Coop.
Thank you, Kenneth! I think they're a bit on the fat side, but given tonight's temp drop that will hopefully be in their favor for the present!
I know ... I feed my Hank-meister the Blue Heeler a few too many duck jerky treats and my chickens a tad too much sunflower/mealworm/cricket/peanut treat mix. My bad! They did well with their molting though and there is only one of my Easter Eggers who still has new tail feather stubs coming in, but otherwise feathered-up. Given how warm it's been I think they did well re-feathering, although the man at Stanton's Feed warned me that it could be a late molt and early freeze this year.
As far as the coop goes ... I bought the best reviewed kit I could find and double
Behr waterproofed every side of every piece with 2-3 coats before assembling it. It took over a week to apply and dry all of the pieces in the humidity before assembling and I'm still not happy with it's sturdiness, although it is MUCH, MUCH better than most available kits online that I've seen. I'm really looking for a better option ... particularly rot-resistant modular options that can be separated and/or joined together for my plans going forward.
If you, or anyone, has any ideas on modular coops that are warm/high-humidity resistant I'd love to hear about them. I'm seeing that there are resources here that I've not even begun to scratch the surface of .... which is AWESOME! That said, I need to narrow my options down in the next month or so and plan things out.
Thanks so much for responding ... and thanks for your kind words about my fat chickens!
Merry Christmas from me, Barbara, and Hank the Tank cowdog!
