Howdy from Cave City

Welcome Bill! Great to have you here at BYC!

At 48, it's about time you got started! I can identify, though. I had wanted to do the hobby-farm thing for ages, and we finally were able to get chickens eight years ago when I was 42 (and have since added quail and recently rabbits).
Hi Bill welcome to the BYC flock, it's nice to meet you. RE: your avatar, are you really a tech blacksmith?

Thanks for the warm welcome! As for the avatar, I'm not a blacksmith - but b(ill)smith and I'm a techie type person. I was a systems engineer for Cisco for several years before deciding I wanted to travel less and stay home more.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens!

Your flock looks great!

G’Day from down under Bill :frow Welcome and Congratulations! :clap

Your girls are adorable!

I do hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has a Learning Centre and also Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share more Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
G'day! I've been digging through the learning center quite a bit already, it's a virtual treasure trove of goodies and information.

On a chicken story note - I discovered Henrietta (my Rhode Island Red) is not shy about telling me when she's comfy and doesn't want to be disturbed. After dark, all five of the girls were on the roosting bar in the open portion of the coop. I wanted to be sure they made it into the nesting box area for more protection and warmth - all were fine with me helping them in but her :) Goldie (my Buff Orpington) however, decided my arm was just as comfy as the roosting bar and was quite content sitting on me. Gotta love em!
