Hey everyone. Here goes the standard questions.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

Sort of I guess? We had them growing up, I wasn't their primary care taker and would only really check on them if asked and changed their water and food every now and then. But I am now currently brooding 6 chicks for myself

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

As stated above I am brooding 6 chicks, just got them yesterday, they're living in a bin in the garage with a heat lamp and other necessities. Town ordinances dictate I can have 10 hens and 0 roosters, so let's hope all these are hens, that's what I paid for anyway.

(3) What breeds do you have?

No idea, I live near a hatchery and they had a weekly special on a random assortment. So maybe as they get older I'll be able to tell, but they do all look completely different as chicks.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

I had some pretty fond memories of having chickens as a kid and I'm hoping my daughters can have similar memories of having chickens, plus I enjoy eating eggs and am hoping to have some of the nice natural eggs I had as a kid, rather than having to continually buy them at the store

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I play video games, enjoy tinkering, have some 3d printers, have a few rc cars, raise geckos, have an aquarium, do some programming of random things, play disc golf, I'm into quite a bit these days.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I have a wife and 2 young daughters, the oldest is 3 and a half and the youngest is 18 months. We have a cat, a wonderful dog, 2 crested geckos, and an aquarium with a few fish. My wife's occupation is full time mother (do not envy that difficult task) and I am an Automation Engineer, if you've ever seen the show how it's made I more or less am the guy who programs that kind of machinery to make it do what it does. I grew up in the country and we've lived in town for the last 4 years so I'm hoping to get back out in the country in the next decade.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I stumbled across BYC when trying to find some more detailed information about brooding chicks, what made me join is I belong to forums for all my other hobbies, why not make this one of them.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone and sharing my experiences.
