1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
- Round 2 of chickens. First clutch of 12 was 7 years ago. Picked up chicks from local hatchery on 5/4/22. One week old tomorrow.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
20
(3) What breeds do you have? - 1 pullet of each; 1 confirmed male (Barred Rock)
Barred Rock, Rhode Island Red, Black Australorp, Buff & Lavender Orpington, Gold & Silver-laced Wyandotte
Easter Egger, Delaware, Dominique, Barnevelder, Black & Blue Copper Marans, Blue Andalusian, Black Minorca

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Eggs! But, love the personalities, sounds they make. So fun to watch and interact with!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Pet Sitting, writing and reading

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Just Hubby and I with big dogs and a few cats. Wishing for donkeys, gaited horses and Dexter cows!

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
Known about BYC since our first clutch 7 years ago. Wish such a larger and diverse group of chicks, and starting the off in an unseasonably hot May, I have questions.
 
Hi Kiki! Glad to know another Texan that's dealing with this crazy heat! Can't imagine what August will be like!!!

I have a question about dust baths for week old baby chicks. We have thought about getting organic garden soil...no additives but organic dirt and peat moss. Plus sand, but we only have playground-type sand. Another thought has been herbs. I'd appreciate your feedback. THANK YOU!
