Hello all! So excited to be here! My husband got me a chicken coop for christmas and made some modifications and we think it will be perfect for our backyard gals. We just got our 3 chicks from our local feed store. We got a Buff Orpington, a Barred Rock and New Hamphire Red. I grew up with chickens as a kid out in the country so it will be interesting to see how it goes in our backyard! We have a 2 year old little girl and we are excited to teach her about the chickens. We are also going to attend an intro to beekeeping seminar in a few weeks. Anyone also keep bees? Not sure if it is something we want to take on with a curious toddler running around...we shall see ;-)

! Glad you joined the BYC community.

Great breed choices - I've had all 3 and am particularly partial to the NHR. I hope you enjoy your birds as much as I do.

I don't raise bees, myself, but there's a thread here for beekeepers: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...e-interested-in-beekeeping/2160#post_18015529.

Best of luck!

Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends
