Howdy Y'all!
Found the group while researching Caponing(Caponizing?) and looking for Buckeye chicks. Hoping to establish a couple dozen in chicken-tractors, for around the yard (1 acre). Hope to get them soon.
I'm 48 and my wife is 47, between us we have 5 kids, ages 13-22, all at home. I'm an ex Army disabled Veteran, so home full-time. My wife is a teacher(Life Skills 5th-6th Grades). Trying to become more food independent and take charge of several different parts of our food supplies.
Goal is to find land with a house and become energy and food independent, while returning to a simpler lifestyle and educating our kids in self-sufficiency.
We live in Cedar Creek, Tx., between Austin and Bastrop. Moved here because she has always wanted to get to this area and I have lived here, as well as to be closer to my Mom and grandmothers (all 3 widows).

Later,
Jeff F.
Cedar Creek, Tx.

First of all, thank you so much for your service to our country!
My own family has a long history of military service (Army and Navy - though we try to keep the rivalries to a minimum) and I truly understand the pressures it can place on a family and I think its wonderful that you are further connecting with your own family by becoming more self-sufficient.

I'm also a backyard homesteader - at least until I can escape into the country - and keeping chickens is a wonderful way to get started! Good luck!

Hey there, Jeff and Jeff's DW! So nice to make your acquaintance! This is such a great site, with an abundance of friendly people who are willing to lend a hand any way they can. You'll not find a more caring, considerate, helpful group of people anywhere on the planet! Pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee / tea / soda, and get ready to enjoy the banter (and the hours will fly by unbelievably fast!)
