Hardware cloth is the only way to go.
X2 on the hardware cloth. Not only is it strong enough to keep predators from tearing though it, but the openings in it are small enough to keep predators like weasels, minks, rats, snakes, etc. from squeezing through the holes in the mesh. In this regard, even chain link suffers from the same problem as chicken wire.

Put the Wellsumer eggs in lockdown last night. Also have 1 golden laced Wyandot egg a silver laced Wyandot egg and one maran egg in with the 12 Wellies. I had just gotten my 5 month old Blac copper Rooster. He was still figuring out how to charm his new lady friends so I wasn't sure the eggs would be fertile. I'll know for sure soon

Thank you. Been reading up on using egg cartons to hatch in. ( bottoms only). I put eggs in carton when I locked down last night. Last hatch only 4 of 12 Welsummer eggs hatched. I balm it on the barnvelders ( who all hatched a day earlier) playing soccer with their cousins. 2 stopped developing earlier but 6 looked perfect one even pipped but didn't hatch. I'm really hoping this system will improve results. I had heat problems , spikes to 104 the last 4 days that nearly drove me nuts. I threw my water heater thermostate as far I I could and put a digital that is working awesome ( as long as I remember 37.7 celcius = 100 degrees F.
