What a fantastic website this is!

I have wanted chickens for years, but own neither chickens nor coop. My husband is building something in our garage (which I'm forbidden to enter) that may be a coop. I've started reading about certain breeds and have come up with a VERY flexible list of some that interest me. If you have opinions or expertise with these, would you mind sharing them with this novice please? We don't intend to eat our birds; they'll be strictly for eggs, yard art, and company. Thank you SO much!

Appenzeller Spitzhauben
Buff Orpington
Delaware
New Hampshire Red
Plymouth Rock
Rhode Island (there were several types listed on this website, but I'd prefer the ones that are not aggressive. How do you tell/buy just those?)

Do birds of these breeds get along with each other? Are there some groupings of breeds that don't mix well? Thanks for your comments and help.

from NH. Sounds like you are going to have fun. Avoid the pouffy-headed birds when you are first starting out. They are the ones most likely to get picked on in a flock. All the birds you listed should be good, though.

I believe they all should get along just fine, space is the most important. There needs to be enough room for the chickens to get away from each other.
