Howdy, new member out of WNC!

Welcome here Kenny what a great intro. I'm glad you joined.
What a find to get an already established flock. I'm glad family is getting into them also.
You've lived a lot in 27 years! I'm glad you are a jabberbox we are too ( at least I am) lol. I actually know a few with esophageal ca. so glad you beat it.
Me too! It's one of the scary ones. I got exceptionally lucky, well as lucky as one can be in that situation. Hadn't metastisized at all, we caught it early because it formed in such a way that prevented me from eating anything but liquids. Who knew acid reflux could be so dangerous. I know I had no clue. I hope the best for them. It really is a sucker punch when you find out.

Hi @KennyZeDevildog :frow

Congrats on your battle, and I hope that you stay in good health.

Welcome!
I'm going to do my best! Better eating and kicking the soda/energy drink(this one is honestly the hard part. Enlisted habits are the hardest to kick I think.) habit have been my main concerns. Been doing more hiking and hunting so I'm in better shape than before, but I'd like to be better about. Going to be getting a gym membership. My goal is see my possible future great grandkids before I finally kick the bucket.

Normally I'm long winded and never shut up about myself so to avoid prattling on unprompted, I'll just go ahead and use the suggested questions.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I dabbled in the past, but those ended up being my dad's birds. A friend offered me all of his because he was moving and I guess he felt comfortable enough with me and asked if I wanted them, which I did. I have the space and have wanted birds for a while, gladly took up the charge.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Five hens, soon to be five hens and a rooster

(3) What breeds do you have?

Truly do not know, but they're pretty. A few separate breeds. View attachment 3735249

Also with at least one being an easter egger View attachment 3735254

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

So far it's been introducing my wife and kid to them. They're taking to them well.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Frankly, I'm a dork. Hunting, fishing, slingshots, shooting sports, (dabbled in) gardening, occasionally video games and TTRPGs, and shooting my mouth off on online forums. My main haunt is my state specific hunting forum.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I've a wife and a boy, he'll be 4 in April. I've had quite the 20s so far, being 27 and already having gotten married, gotten through and enlistment in the Marine Corps, gotten and beaten cancer(Esophageal. I know, old man cancer, usually. But I'm lucky like that), and started working at the post office as a clerk, got a career position just in late 2023 after I got back from dealing with the cancer. I like to say I'm the luckiest unlucky man I know.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?

My father told me this was probably one of the best places to find good information about my gals and how to make them as happy as I can.
Welcome son! Love ya! He's an awesome amazing man. He definitely is influenced by my pass times and interests when he was a kid. He has made me proud over and over again. I'm a little surprised about his recent Interest in gardening he always was excited to start it but come weeding and and the other stuff not so much. I remember before he left home I let him have the ol turtle sandbox to plant his own thing inside the greenbean room. He grew some kind of hot peppers. They grew upside down and I never seen that at the time and wow they were hot! We dared and forced each other to eat them a few times. Im truly blessed
