hello everyone! I found this site looking for diy incubators. there are some wonderful diy designs on this site. thanks to everyone for sharing such great info! I am currently undecided on what breed of chickens will suite me best. I am looking for a very docile breed only for egg production. what are some of everyones favorites? I really like the look of the dorkings and the rare breed factor, but am unable to find any chicks/hatching eggs. : / any info would be great. thanks and hope everyone is having a wonderful day!

from So California. For eggs and friendlt birds I decided on Barred rocks and Buff Orpingtons. They are just 6 wks old- so am patiently waiting for the 20 wk mark. Have you checked out MyPetChicken ? I found their people very helpful and had a good shipping experience with them. Good luck!

welcome, and if you are looking for docile egg layers, the barred plymouth rock is a friendly mild mannered bird. rhode island reds are another friendly breed that is hearty and a good layer of brown eggs. if you can get them from a local breeder or hatch out your own they tend to be more calm and friendly if they are not stuffed into a box and mailed cross country on their first day of life. whatever you decide, good luck.
