Hi! My husband and I are returning to rural life after 10+ years of cramped city living. (Yay!) We just purchased a farm in Southern Illinois that came complete with a small flock of 1-2 year old layers, and a fairly benevolent rooster. We think they're a RIR cross of some kind.
I've never been around chickens before, but it didn't take long for me to fall in love. A ridiculous amount of fresh eggs in the shortest days of winter sure helps!
Last time my husband kept chickens, he was knee-high. We're looking forward to learning more about our flock and getting to know everyone here on the forum.
