Name is Robert & I'm 27 yrs old. Me and the wife have been looking for a new home. We've put a few offers on some homes all with 3+ acres. I grew up with farming parents, horses, cows, chickens, ducks, dogs, rabbits, and etc.
Been a dream for a yr or so now to find some nice land and buy a few chickens. Of course I have some questions:
I'm kind of a big softy....not much on killing animals I see on a day to day basis. I do hunt, but that's a different story I guess. I'd like to buy 5 hens and they'd end up being spoiled rotten. If I want chickens that are friendly (the kind I can walk up to and pet) - Should I get eggs and hatch them so they imprint on me? Or would day-week olds be just as friendly?
The home I have an offer on right now is 3 acres in a country housing addition. They allow ALL live stock except pigs and........that's right, CHICKENS! LOL. Do you think someone would notice 5 chickens roaming around?
Also, the fence is about 5 ft high and they can't get out due to possible law intervention. If I clip wings, how high can they get up?
Last question - What bread is the friendliest, most eye pleasing and best egg layers? Like a good combo of all 3 things?
Thanks Ya'll !! Hope to be around for awhile!
OH! And P.S. I notice that majority here are female (nothing wrong with that!!!) but is owning chickens like demascalating (sp?)?
Edit: P.P.S.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

(3) What breeds do you have?
