Just kidding with the howdy. Live in Central CA 15 miles from the coast. We acquired 4 hens this spring. 1 black copper maran who quit laying after 4 beautiful brown eggs and is losing some feet feathers. 2 that were supposed to be easter egger's but not they look like some sort of copper maran cross one has a beard. Both lay well. Last one is a Buff Orpington that thinks she is a dog. Lays a egg almost every day. Been checking the site out for awhile. Finally registered so I can post and use links.

Do the EEs lay nice pretty green eggs? They could be olive eggers

No the EE's lay tan and sort of a copper color egg's. We been living off the grid for a year and we are a work in progress. Organic gardening and the laying Chickens are our first projects. We will be getting some meat Chickens and possibly some rabbits late spring so we can put the chicks out ASAP. We did a straw bale garden due to the fact our native soil needs some help. Just got a larger coop for more layers. I see rabbits and goats in our future.

:welcome Interesting .You riding a bicycle to generate power to run your phone :lau what is the age f the marans hen? did they all come from the same grower? I have some pullets that started laying and stopped . Been looking for signs they might be eating the eggs. So far haven't found any shells or anything like that..

G’Day from down under Below frigid :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
