❤ love hearing that! We don't have tv, our laptops sit around getting dusty, and our phones have usage limits. We figure, when the kids start driving is when they'll need a phone in case of emergency... screen time before that will be as non-existent as possible!

We are next door in Lake County :) What are your plans for your land in Mendo? It is gorgeous up that way!
 
Sounds like you've seen what screens have done to a generation already.

Our spread is in the general Boonville area, way in a dirt road. I built things out from scratch over 20 years. Off grid everything. Started with a pole structure covered in plastic, a 55gal drum painted black for showers if there was sun, pit toilet and a $700 12v solar system. Now my mom lives there in a real cabin I started and enjoys solar/inverter 110v, propane flash heater and fridge, a real bathroom, washer, dryer, and propane backup genset to run those heavy items. Else, it's all solar. She added a farmer line for phone. When I moved there, a spirit of git-er-done reined. We logged, wrenched, bartered, hunted, gardened, repaired stuff and raised sheep. Now the main economy seems to be wine, pot farms and checks from the gubbmint. I would not move back.
