Hi there!
I'm Charlee, an Idaho farm girl who has a fondness for critters, real home grown food, and self sustainability. I am currently working on a blog that will be live by January 1, 2016 called Barnyard Bounty (barnyardbounty.com). I am a rancher's daughter and the granddaughter of three generations of dairy farmers. My husband and I live on a small farm in a rural town in Idaho and raise goats, chickens, beef cattle, and soon - a dairy cow and pigs. We also have a "barn cat" which lives primarily in the house, much to my hubby's dismay and two dogs, a bull mastiff (he's an old guy at 12), Gunner and an Australian Shepherd/Border Collie, Yoakum, who works very hard at herding everything from the chickens to the grand kids.
I currently have 23 chickens, 22 of which are hens and one, big, beautiful and very self confident rooster. Ironically, he was the runt. But what man wouldn't have confidence if he had a harem of 22 women? We have four breeds that include Red Sagitta, Golden Sexlinks, Buff Orpingtons and Black Australorp (our rooster is of this breed). They are truly free range chickens, are friendly and give us a continual source of entertainment.
I have often read the forums on BYC and found many of the questions and much of the advice very helpful. I look forward to sharing my experiences as well as learning even more from this site and making new acquaintances an friends!
Smiles,
Miss Charlee :0)
