Hey gang! I'm a newbie to the site and also to raising chickens.

Actually to be precise, I'm all set up with supplies and equipment but I haven't received my new chicks yet which I ordered via mail because the neighborhood Tractor Supply hasn't had any Rhode Islands Red's in store since Chick Days started but they do offer them online thru a hatchery. I'm a little dubious about the chicks traveling via USPS mail and actually was trying to have them delivered to the store (Feel free to add your feedback on this route) still I knew I wanted RIR's after spending several weeks reading about various breeds. I definitely wanted a hearty layer breed that could handle the extreme heat we experience in Fresno, CA for the majority of the year. (Have a look at my setup for the chicks which is currently in the bathtub of a spare bedroom).

My main question though is about composting. The way my house is situated, the entertaining area and kitchen looks out directly onto the most likely spot for compost piles. Not ideal. Is there any issue with placing my compost piles inside my greenhouse where I'm growing blueberries, tomatoes, spinach, etc?

Thanks so much for the feedback!

The only problem i would see is having a stinky greenhouse.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I've received chicks via USPS three times. It's best to have them shipped in mild weather.
How many chicks are you expecting? That brooder is small and they will likely outgrow it in about 3 weeks.
Is your coop and run built and ready to go?
