HOWDY

Hello, Jordan, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

Spend lots of time reading articles on proper coop/run design and construction and decide where you want to place your setup in relation to your house. Close enough to run electric to it is ideal if you are in a climate that freezes.

Also spend time reading threads on flock management and even some time in the ER forum where you can learn about signs and symptoms of disease or other issues you may face as a chicken keeper so you can be better prepared to act when you see them.

If you build your coop first, you can brood your chicks directly in the coop and save yourself an enormous amount of mess in the house. I used a brooder plate and they work wonderfully. I think a momma heating pad would be even better but never had the time to fashion one.

Good luck getting back into keeping chickens.
