Hi BYC members, My name is DeLee and my husband is Mitch and we just started our first flock on April 10, 2011. We have never had chickens before and are flying by the seat of our pants with the book "Raising Chickens for Dummies" and now your website. We have 6 Rhode Island Red hens who are now 23 days old. Getting beautiful feathers and tiny pink combs. So sweet and gentle. One I call "Ginger" will hop into my hand when I am taking them out while cleaning the cage. They outgrew the large plastic tub that we first put them in and have graduated to a large dog crate and are gonna be ready for their coop real soon. Mitch is making a Chicken Tractor that we will move around our acre. Our goal is eggs and only eggs, so far. We are fans of the movie Chicken Run and have named our chickens after the "cast". Ginger, Babs, Edwina, Mac, Bunty and Agnes. They all are bright eyed and healthy and so entertaining to watch. We look forward to meeting y'all and sharing ideas. The rest of our family consists of 4 Australian Shepherds, 3 cats and 4 Beta Fighting Fish and I frequent our friend's Alpaca Ranch and enjoy them, as well. So, wish us luck!
