Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to our flock. Based on your criteria, I would recommend breeds such as Buff Orpingtons, Brahmas, Speckled Sussex, and Salmon Faverolles. These breeds all have a well deserved reputation for being calm and gentle (potential lap pets), they are very colorful, and are all good layers. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.
