I live in MA in the US. There had been HPAI in wild bird populations and it has been found in at least 1 back yard flock.
I am wondering about risk vs benefits of keeping my chickens inside their covered run for the time being. But,I think they are happier when they are free range and I have no idea what the likelihood is of my chickens actually getting HPAI. If risk is low I will just let them out.
I do live very close to the water, so there are plenty of ducks, geese, terns, ect in the general area but never in my actual yard. There are plenty of little birds that hang out with chickens though and my birds are under trees pretty much 100% of the time.
Any opinions?
