I am so happy to see this thread. Especially seeing as how I've got the Dickey nearly tuned and ready for our first setting of eggs. Now my wife did encourage me to buy the things after I dithered over the expense. I'm going to show her this thread in about a month or so when the first eggs begin to hatch. "Honey, just look at this thread with all these wives who have understanding husbands!"

Or maybe what I really need is a thread posted by husbands with understanding wives?...

You can never tell the youngest child anything. They are the weak link.

So true! Mine always tell on me. When we first got chickens my hubby tried to rein me in from buying chicks - he'd do a head count every once in a while just to be sure there were no new arrivals. Well, one day when we were still training the flock to come in at night he counted several extra birds, the kids piped right up and said, "Yeah, mom got 10 more of them the other day - but these are bantams they don't take up as much room in the coop...." My hubby gave me the stink eye. But, the other day I went to Orschelins to get another chick feeder and waterer, and caught him going back to check the chick bins ( which I had carefully avoided ). I asked him what he was looking for - he claimed he was just looking around brousing. He admitted later that he was cruising for some more Light Brahma eye candy! I told him we would have to order those since that particular store doesn't carry them, lol. Husbands are great - they learn to take it all in stride.......

Definitely show her this thread!! LOL My husband was a goose hater too. Didn't want geese ever. Had bad experience with them as a child.

I talked him into a baby Sebastopol last year. I have tons of pictures of him holding the goose on our living room couch. Even when he was a full grown gander! LOL Goose hater my foot!! ROFL!!

Good luck to you Alan!

I would love to just "find" some Buff Ducks nearby! Noone seems to have any just hanging around....

My husband said "NO MORE ANIMALS".

Then he caught me reading a book on bee keeping and flipped.

My reply..

:You didn't say anything about insects!!"

LOL!! I've always wanted to keep bees but I'm deathly allergic to them. Hubby and I have discussed getting them and putting them on the far end of our property but then he would have to be the one always caring for them and I really would love to. So I guess no beekeeping for me. Waaaaaahhhhhhh
