Hubby has figured out how to do Chicken Math!!

I don't think its a new type of math, I think it is a contagious disease. We started to get 3, now were up to 6. These suckers better lay some eggs to pay for what the coop is costing me!

3 weeks ago i was sitting at the kitchen table about to order our chicks, I was figuring 12 layers and a Roo, and a dozen meat birds.

(looks like I'm gonna need the Roo, when i told the gang I would have free range eggs in the spring, I suddenly have a dozen egg customers)

DH was across the table, we discussed the breeds and decided on 6 barred Rock and 6 Black sex link and Barred Roo.

Just as my pal at our feed store answered, DH starts waving his arms at me ( drives me bonkers when I am on the phone, like a 2 yr old kid)

I ask my pal to hang on a sec, DH says "go big or go home, order 25 meat birds"
So I did, suddenly it dawned on me that I will now have 38 chicks arriving on tues, and my hubby is out of town for the next 8 weeks.

Not sure how he turned that around on me, but I have now informed him that his indoor winter project is building me a Bator!
And also, by his upping the order, I interperet that as I can order some fancy chicks in the spring and he will have no say!
course, he'll be busy outside expanding the coop & yard!

STOP!!! You misunderstood him entirely!! He meant that since he is getting 25 meat birds that you should do the same for your layers now! You will have no integration issues if you order all your layers now and they will all begin laying together just when your customers get demanding. This saves the spring time for some "amusement" type chickens. He is going to be away for eight weeks. He'll be back just in time to process those meaties and by then he will be so glad to see you and so glad to be done processing that he will be to tired to count those little layers (they move fast you know) and by then it is too late. Call that hatchery back. They are waiting for your call.

I started out harmeless may just 7 or 8 more got a good deal on some chicks a backward barnyard 38 hens and 12 roos, then the next thing you know Myers had a great deal 50 bantams for $45 buck couldn't pass that up, and of course I've always wanted turkeys but I had to order 15. So when they arrived i got 54 standards, 52 bantams and 16 turkey cause they throw in a few extras. Oh and right now they are all in brooders in my laundry room but just till I get the large brooder built in the garage.

look at like this...you pay part of the bills right...so no one has the right to say what you can or can not have....if they do...it's time for another significant other. that's always been my take on things.

The SAFEST way is to give them to me *nod*

If you're getting rid of the cocks, though, start looking into some stew recipes..... >.>

Oh lordy, yes! I have two sets of eggs in incubators, AND chicks in the brooder, and I'm awaiting more eggs to hatch!! PLUS I already have plans for ANOTHER batch after that!!

Oh... I'm in big time trouble if I ever get my hands on an incubator! We will have to look at doing a major addition to the 2ND coop!
