That's a lot of snow for down there.

Never had this much snow in the 25 years I've lived in NC.

My childhood experiences in Connecticut have been helpful.

One of the Sussex pullets

The pullets are giving me 1-2 eggs daily.

I hope you don’t mind but I just showed this picture to my hen and discussed with her how there is a hen in a nest box, and an egg, and this is how this needs to work. My hen had a few comments, but hopefully the overall point was gained and carried with a raisin for bribery purposes Rooster was interested in the viewing, too.

I pulled up a couple cabbage plants that were a tad wilted from the freezing cold.

They were appreciated!

The second flock also got cabbage, but I didn't take a picture.

Update

Monday...the snow melted enough for me to roll the shade cloth back into position. Now the flock can see out the yard side of the coop (north)

There were some comments about the gum tree "balls", nasty spikey seed casings. With the breezy weather the blasted things blew into my yard, grr.

They roll under your foot when you step on them.

Today was mild, 60°, and I spend some time picking up the blasted things.

That's a huge box, almost full. I cleared most of the area on both sides of the plastic fence. It's a start.

These two pullets are the only Sussex that are laying, their eggs are the brown ones on the right:

I hardboiled 13 eggs today, pickled 10 in beet brine.

Some of the Sussex gals enjoying clumps of grass I dug up just for them.
