I am a cardiac patient...I had mitral valve prolapse, basically Tetralogy of Fallot. I was a blue baby. Which is from oxygenated blood not getting to where it's supposed to be going. I've had 2 corrections that worked.

Have them do an Echo on his heart...
Not keeping an O2 level isn't good...it almost sounds like emphysema or something similar.

He should also have a Peak Flow Meter to test how well his lungs are working...

Hopes and prayers are with you both.

Thinking and praying for you and yours.
Bypass the doctor. You are to be in the 90's at all times...
My daughter was born with lung deformities...spent lots of time at the childrens hospital, still go about 12 times a year for 4 different doc.'s; for different things...anyway...
They watch her pulse oxy constantly...it is a big deal...MUCH, MUCH damage can occur if it goes low, and stays low.
Some heart issues...never, never rule out the heart.
Some lung diseases....my cousin developed COPD and has never smoked and is 34 now, diagnosed when he was 29. My daughter also has severe chronic asthma...she can drop oxygen levels in a matter of minutes with no wheezing, or coughing...her lips tinge and her face pales and becomes clammy....then her heart kicks in with it's little spells...
I learned early with my daughter, the best care is my care, watch..listen...talk..ask questions....and at times, demand.

alleyoops, I just saw your post and am really worried about you and dh. I lost a BIL in 2005. He was working on a car in Feb. and it fell on him. He was ok (just bruised) or so we thought. In July one morning he woke up feeling funny, couldn't breath, got out of bed, walked down the hallway and fell over. He died in the arms of his DW and 11 year old son. They said a blood clot went into his lungs and it was probably there since the car fell on him.
Don't stop til you find out EXACTLY what is wrong. Nothing in the world can replace him. You may have to go to more trouble, just annoy the heck out of them. It will be worth every second. My BIL was only 50 when we lost him. Best of luck to you! Keep us posted on his condition.

Im a Nutritional Consultant NOT a doctor, I'm providing this for your information to discuss with your doctor.

Exams and Tests

Small red blood cells
Low serum ferritin
Low serum iron level
High iron binding capacity (TIBC) in the blood

Celiac disease is caused by sensitivity to gluten and other proteins found in wheat, barley, rye, and possibly oats. It
has several symptoms but here are just a few;

Abdominal pain
Abdominal distention, bloating, gas, indigestion
Constipation
Decreased appetite (may also be increased or unchanged)
Diarrhea, chronic or occasional
Lactose intolerance (common upon diagnosis, usually goes away following treatment)
Nausea and vomiting
Stools that float, are foul smelling, bloody, or “fatty”
Unexplained weight loss (although people can be overweight or of normal weight upon diagnosis)

A partial listing of non-intestinal symptoms:
Anemia (low blood count)
Bone and joint pain
Bone disease (osteoporosis, kyphoscoliosis, fracture)
Breathlessness (due to anemia)
Bruising easily
Dental enamel defects and discoloration
Depression
Fatigue
Growth delay in children
Hair loss
Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
Irritability and behavioral changes
Malnutrition
Mouth ulcers
Muscle cramps
Nosebleed
Seizures
Short stature, unexplained
Skin disorders (dermatitis herpetiformis)

Okay we are in at the new hospital nownow. I got thinking about my old boss at the last nursing home I worked at. She was really awesome, and in the past I remembered how we actually ignored a doctor in kind of the same problem. So I called her and she got us a portable tank ready. This all happend just at the right time. He was getting worse by the minute by the time I thought to do this. Luckily the nursing home isnt but a five minute drive from here. Once I got him on the oxygen and cranked it up I was able to keep the O2 resting at 90. I reclined the front seat back so he could relax, dropped the kids off with his dad so they could ride up with him. We were also lucky that it didnt snow as bad between our starting popint and our destination. and DOT had the roads about totally cleared off so it was smooth sialing the whole way. We made here just fine. The doctors here found two blood clots in his lungs, so he is on blood thinners they have him hooked to a whole mess of wires to make surte he isnt spiraling down hill. They have him going on regular oxygen right now but we are in the CCU so if he does go down hill they can put him on a ventilator at moments notice. I havent left him alone since yesterday, I am still yet to have any sleep and I have realiz I am close to pushing 48 hours. My in laws have a room rented, the kids arent allowed back here so my mother in law has them over there right now getting them done with their school work, and getting them ready for bed. My father has gone back down to get us packed, I didnt stop long enough to pack anything execpt the blood pressure kit, oxometer, and my first aid kit, and cell phone. I am quite worried about my father in law going through my personal belongings. I am not sure he is going to look to be able to look me straight in my face after he has went through all my nighties, and panties. And I am even more scared of the woardrobe He will have put together for me. I can see him packing me sweaters and then shorts with high heels. I am cutrian he wont remember to bring my meds so by this time tomarrow I wont be feel ing so good.I have tried calling home and remembered I turned off the ringer the night before so that if he called us it wouldnt affect (DH's) sleep. And I am not sure why he even owns a cell phone he never has the stupid thing turned on. So well see what happens. I am running on adrenaline right now, I am going to chrase hard when I come down off of it, but I refuse to leave him until my mother and father in law have had some sleep and one of them take my shift of watching him. I know they havent slept either, and I want to make sure I am here to see the doctor in the morning. After that I will try to catch a little sleep. Tomarrow they are going to run tests on his heart to make sure that there isnt anything wrong in the area. I am kind of nervious about it even though a year ago he went to a heart specialist, and was found he was okay then. I feel we have the Lords hand on our shoulders, its the only reason Im am sitting in the hospital instead of the funeral home. The doctors couldnt believe he lived through the night. And I am not sure if I want to take legal actions on the ER doctor but have been given a number for some attorneys. Right now I am only concerned about his health. I can start to think about this part of it later. I actually sat down here and read through this entire thread, including my posts. I am sorry that you all had to decode my posts. Thank you all for your concern, prayers, and support. You all are really awesome.

I'm so glad to hear you made it to a real hospital in time. Your DH is so lucky to have someone like you taking care of him and making sure he gets the care he needs. You need to rest and take care of yourself too because he is going to need you in the next few days. As far as the ER, action needs to be taken for sure. Call the lawyer and leave it in their hands. I will keep you and your DH in my prayers.

Wow Alley, SOO relieved to hear you made it okay and that they did in fact find the cause of Davy's problems. Please keep us updated and our thoughts and prayers are headin to the Western Slope. Take care of yourself too

Thanks for the update - I've been thinking about your and your DH all day long and hoping you got some APPROPRIATE attention for his (obviously) major issues.

Glad they found the clots - at least you have some answers as to what was causing the immediate crisis and sounds like y'all are in the right place now to get some long term treatment and answers.

Will continue to send up prayers for you and your DH. Hope you can get at least a LITTLE rest now that you have him getting the help he needs!

I'm so glad he is in a safe place, you and your family are in my prayers. Please when you can make sure that ER knows what they did, things could have been fatal for your DH and they need to know they made mistakes. Even if you do not take legal actions, they need to know they sent a very sick man home. If your don't they will continue to do that.
Get some rest, and know you have people praying for you and your family.
Brenda

Thank God he is ok for now! Man I would have been so angry at the original ER for sending a very sick man home...thats not right!
