He said it. No way, ugh-ugh, not going to happen. Any new chicks need to go into the coop with broodys or hatch them under broodys. So I got a call about some 1 1/2 week old bantams at TSC, only 4. OK he says give them to one of your broodys ( i have 3 to pick from lol). Well I gave them to the mama that has the same age chicks, didnt go well. She attacked, luckily i was in there. So i put them in the garage with a heat lamp. Hubby came home, took one look at them......

Picked up the tub, said grab the lamp its gonna be cold at night! Now they are in the playroom....

I have 31 in my living room...ages 2.5 to 4 weeks! Hubby loves them being inside but hates the dust that the pine shavings is making. Its getting out of control...the more they kick and dig, the more I have to dust. If I go dust right now, I'll need to do it again in a couple hours! Its baaaaad!!!

Lol, guys can be such softies. My husband has tried that "no more chickens in the house" thing with me too. It lasts until he sees their cute fuzzy butts running around in the brooder (in our back bedroom), then he forgets all about putting them outside. Last night he sat there watching our newly hatched OE chicks for over an hour lol.

We use an air purifier right next to the brooder and the big girls' indoor winter coop. It takes out the dust and alot of the aroma.

My brooder is in the storage room of the basement. It's really big--actually made of a 110 gallon black water tank that I bought from TSC. I guess livestock drink from it? Anyhow, I've got 16 chicks in there now and I have to change out the shavings about every fourth day, otherwise it get to smelling not so good.......

As long as I keep it clean, hubby doesn't mind....He just doesn't want to smell them.....

Loved the stories. Ours are in our workshop (aka walkout basement), 11 plymouth rock/hampshire red that are 1 week old and just added (in separate brooder) 8 mixed bantums. I also have started my tomato and pepper plants (and herbs and flowers) in the workshop on a big table, complete with grow lights. Did I mention this was my husband's workshop, the "man-cave?" He is a good sport, always is. He is a big softie too, but I picked him well!

I made a solemn promise after I drove 1 1/2 hours to a local breeder to pick up two true ameraucanas that I was done! No more 2011 chicks! And then yesterday, it was the start of chick days at our local feed store, and I just "happened" to be out of cat food. I told myself I was just going to look.

I called my hubby and asked what he was doing and he made the joke "out buying chickens". There was dead silence on my end. He responded with a loud "NO"!!! "But honey, they have Turkens! In colors we don't have." Dead silence on his end. "Okay, you can pick out two"

Gotta love them!

Every time I move chicks outside DH says "no more chicks in the house"
Every time I hatch more, they go in the downstairs bathroom for a few days before they go outside to the brooder boxes (heated).
But he still says it every time.
He cracks me up.
